This 1966 Dodge a100 camper van is not being used and appreciated enough. I'm hoping someone can free it from the stagnation of my garage. It deserves some TLC and the open road. Have your cake and eat it too, this van is a running, working project.

The new caretaker of this survivor will be at least the 4th owner. When it came off the line in 1966, it went straight to Travco for the Campwagon conversion with the pop top. I bought the van from a Region Rat in Gary, IN. According to him, he picked up the van in a trade with someone from upstate New York. I think they may have been the original owner. The gasser theme paint and pin striping was done before it came to the Midwest.

The Region Rat installed a 273 V8 and replaced the manual transmission with an automatic 727 torqueflite. My memory is foggy with where a few features were added in as I was distracted by the Region Rat's dwelling where the garage and house were one, complete with a 22 gauge shotgun in the living room where the cash deal went down. I would have preferred the deal to happen on the other side of the room, the garage where the Region Rat was working on a replica of James Dean's Little Bastard, but aside from some rattled memories, it all worked out. It was either in Gary or New York that some of the defining gasser elements were added. These include the ladder bars, the glass packed exhaust through the rocker panels and the stance with the offset wheelbase. The van has a two inch lift on the front to acommodate the 15" Silvertown Radial whitewalls up front and the bigger brother 17's in the rear.

I bought the ampwagon with hopes and dreams of cruising the Mother Road with my kids while they still thought I was cool. They are now teenagers and my ship has come in for the next project. I've enjoyed the van for many miles. It's unknown exactly how many because the odometer never worked while I had it. New brakes, new alternator, new battery, turn signals and brake lights that work and a gasser rear bumper with a hitch have been my contributions since I've had it.

I hate to see my kids getting brainrot on their phones as much as I hate to see the van rotting from not being used. Thanks for looking. Keep on truckin'.
